BALLET

Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles and plays a vital role in developing strong technique, posture, coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, and control. It builds discipline, grace, musicality, and confidence, while nurturing a true appreciation for movement and artistry.

At BDA, we proudly follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus, which, alongside the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), is recognised as the gold standard in ballet training. Through carefully structured exercises, dancers progress safely and steadily, developing excellent technical foundations in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Our Early Years ballet classes are delivered through fun, interactive lessons using:

  • Props

  • Fairy wings

  • Storytelling

  • Nursery rhymes

  • Imaginative movement

As dancers progress through the academy, they may work towards taking ISTD ballet examinations. These exams are not compulsory at BDA, but we believe they offer wonderful opportunities to:

  • Build personal confidence

  • Strengthen technical ability

  • Enhance performance skills

  • And give dancers a real sense of achievement and pride

To help families feel involved in their child’s journey, parents are invited to watch classes once per term, giving you the chance to celebrate progress and share in their development.

From Grade 1 and above, dancers who show a strong passion and commitment to ballet are invited to join our Bovingdon Ballet Company Class on Thursdays, in addition to their regular weekly class. This provides further performance and development opportunities for those wishing to take their ballet training to the next level. Ballet at BDA nurtures not only strong dancers — but confident, disciplined, and expressive young performers.
