CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance is a powerful, creative, and expressive style that blends elements of ballet, modern, and lyrical dance with freedom of movement and emotional storytelling. It encourages dancers to move with strength, control, fluidity, and individuality, allowing their personality and interpretation to shine through.

In Contemporary classes, dancers develop:

-
Core strength, balance, and control
-
Flexibility and physical awareness
-
Musicality and dynamic range
-
Floor work, travelling movement, and seamless transitions
-
Emotional expression and storytelling through movement
This style teaches dancers how to use breath, weight, suspension, and release to create movement that is both athletic and deeply expressive. It helps dancers grow not only physically, but also artistically, encouraging creativity, confidence, and a strong sense of self as a performer.

At BDA, Contemporary Dance is a non-exam-based class, allowing dancers the freedom to explore movement, artistry, and performance without formal assessment. This gives them space to take risks, develop individuality, and grow as confident, expressive dancers in a supportive environment.

Contemporary is a wonderful complement to ballet, modern, jazz, street, and lyrical, and is especially enjoyed by dancers who love storytelling, emotion, and creative movement.
