FAQs
GENERAL INFORMATION
What is BDA?
BDA is a dance academy offering high-quality dance training in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment. We welcome dancers of all abilities, from beginners to experienced performers.
What ages do you teach?
We offer classes for children from age 2 to 18 with classes grouped by age and ability where possible.
Do children need previous dance experience?
No experience is required for most of our classes. Many dancers join us as complete beginners.
TRIAL & TASTER CLASES
Can my child try a class before signing up?
Yes! We offer a free taster class so your child can experience the class before committing.
How do I book a free taster class?
Please complete the taster class booking form on our website here. We’ll confirm availability and let you know what to expect.
What should my child wear for a taster class?
Comfortable clothing that allows movement (leggings/joggers and a t-shirt) and trainers or bare feet, depending on the style. No uniform is required for the trial.
CLASSES & TIMETABLES
Which class should my child join?
Classes are usually grouped by age, but ability and experience are also considered. We’re happy to advise you on the most suitable class.
How long are the classes?
Classes typically last between 30 to 60 minutes depending on age and style.
How many classes per week can my child attend?
Dancers can attend one or multiple classes per week. Many children choose to add more styles as they grow in confidence.
UNIFORM & APPEARANCE

Is there a compulsory uniform?
There is no set uniform required for weekly classes. Dancers should wear appropriate dance attire that they feel comfortable and confident dancing in.
Clothing should:
-
Allow freedom of movement
-
Enable teachers to clearly see alignment and technique
-
Be safe and suitable for dance (no restrictive or overly loose clothing)
Examinations require a set uniform. Should your child be working towards an exam, we will share all relevant uniform information and guidance ahead of time.
Where can we buy BDA branded dance-wear?
All BDA branded dancewear is available to order through our official supplier, Clic Clothing. Please visit: (insert link) for full details and ordering information.
Does my child need their hair a certain way?
For most classes, hair should be neatly tied back off the face (e.g. ponytail or bun). Specific styles may be required for performances or exams.
FEES & PAYMENTS

How much do classes cost?
Fees vary on the length of the class, please email admin@bovingdondance.co.uk for our class fees.
How are fees paid?
Fees are paid half termly in advance and can be paid by bank transfer or card.
Are there sibling discounts?
We don’t offer sibling discounts. However, dancers taking 3 classes or more per week are entitled to a discount.
Are refunds available if we miss a class?
Unfortunately, missed classes are non-refundable. However, please let us know if your child will be absent by popping a message to the specific class page on our Band app.
PERFORMANCES, EXMAS & EVENTS

Do students take part in shows or performances?
Yes! We love giving dancers the chance to perform. Participation is encouraged but not compulsory. Our next show is planned for early 2027, but we are seeking other performance opportunities.
Are there extra costs for shows or costumes?
There are additional costs for costumes, tickets, or events. These will always be communicated well in advance.
Do you offer dance exams or competitions?
We offer ISTD exams for ballet, tap and modern and Acrobatic Arts exams for AcroDance.
POLICIES & SAFETY

What if my child is shy or nervous?
This is very common! Our teachers are experienced in helping children settle in and feel confident at their own pace.
Are classes safe and supervised?
Yes. All classes are taught by qualified and/or experience teachers, and we follow appropriate safeguarding procedures.
Can parents watch classes?
For most classes, parents do not stay in the studio, as this helps children to focus, build confidence, and develop independence. An exception applies to our Mini Ballet Dancer classes, where parents are encouraged to stay and watch.
We also hold a Watch Week once per term, during which parents are invited into classes to observe and celebrate their child’s progress and development.
